About the Award

In 2005, Sabancı University decided to announce and administer an international award to support research on Turkish culture, society, and politics, and to emphasize Turkey's position in the contemporary world. The "Sakıp Sabancı International Research Award" is dedicated to the memory of the late Sakıp Sabancı, Honorary Chairman of Sabancı University's Board of Trustees, and covers fields such as Turkish and Islamic Art and the History, Economy, and Sociology of Turkey. This award aims to highlight new and significant research and focus on Turkey's intellectual role in the contemporary world.

The Award

The Sakıp Sabancı International Research Award includes a Jury Prize of 25,000 USD. This special prize is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions on a specific theme. An independent and international jury will determine the recipient of this award. Additionally, a series of awards will be given to researchers under the age of 45. This category includes 10,000 USD for each of three award-winning essays selected by the same jury from among the submissions made for the competition.

At the end of each academic year, the "Sakıp Sabancı Education Award" is given to students graduating with the top 3 ranks from Istanbul Sakıp Sabancı Anatolian High School and Adana Sakıp Sabancı Middle School.

The "Sakıp Sabancı Art Award" is presented to a total of 9 students who graduate in the top 3 ranks among those graduating from the departments listed below at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University:

• Painting
• Sculpture
• Traditional Turkish Arts

The Art Award includes cash prizes of 40 for first place, 25 for second place, and 15 for third place, equivalent to Republic gold in Turkish Lira. Additionally, recipients of the award will receive certificates in their names.

The "Sakıp Sabancı Lifetime Achievement Award" has been presented since 2005 to show gratitude and respect to masters who have made significant contributions to the development of theater art.

The Sakıp Sabancı Sports Awards are given to athletes who win gold medals at the Olympic Games held every four years, the Disabled (Paralympic) Olympic Games, and the Special Olympics World Summer Games.

The scope of awards given to successful athletes is as follows:

• Olympic Games: A total cash prize of 240 Republic Gold equivalent to Turkish Lira is distributed equally to Turkish athletes who win gold medals (the maximum prize amount that can be given to an athlete is 40 Republic Gold).
• Disabled (Paralympic) Olympic Games: A total cash prize of 240 Republic Gold equivalent to Turkish Lira is distributed equally to Turkish athletes who win gold medals (the maximum prize amount that can be given to an athlete is 40 Republic Gold).
• Special Olympics World Summer Games: A total cash prize of 240 Republic Gold equivalent to Turkish Lira is distributed equally to Turkish athletes who win gold medals (the maximum prize amount that can be given to an athlete is 40 Republic Gold).
