The hospital building, a palace built in the first half of the nineteenth century, was damaged after the earthquake on 17 August 1999, and has been restored to its original architecture in 2000 by the contributions of Sabanci Foundation. Physical sections, technical equipments and teaching staff have been completely renewed. Those departments and administrative units, have been moved to the new, two-storey, modern, and spacious administration building to provide a better service.

Metin Sabanci Baltalimani Osteopathic Training and Research Hospital has been established on a total area of 11,159 square meters and it has a closed area of 6,000 square meters. Its usage rights have been transferred to the Ministry of Health.

On 21 December 2001, the Hospital has been registered by the Ministry of Health under the status of a special branch education and research hospital and therefore, the hospital has become the first and only special branch education hospital providing high-level health services aside from Education and Research services provided in Orthopedics and Traumatology branch in Turkey.

Metin Sabanci Baltalimani Osteopathic Training and Research Hospital, is a candidate for becoming one of the most important orthopedics centers in Europe with its number of patients, patient potential and variety of services, along with its historical and natural beauty.

The hospital offers health services through 3 orthopedics and traumatology clinics, 19 orthopedics and traumatology specialists, 144 hospital beds, 25 out-patient clinical examination rooms, a multipurpose hall for 220 people, library, laboratory and imaging units. There is also a day-care center within the hospital, from which the children of the hospital staff can benefit.

At the health institution, holding TSE-ISO-EN 9000 quality certificate, 140,000 out-patients and 5,000 inpatients are offered health services on a yearly basis. Additionally, 17,000 emergency patients are examined and treated and 5,000 surgeries are carried out, annually. All the units in the hospital are connected to each other via a computer network and patients are admitted to the hospital based on an appointment system by telephone.
